At Handforth Physiotherapy and Rehab, we are committed to developing the next generation of clinicians through structured mentoring, ongoing professional development, and close clinical supervision — ensuring every patient benefits from safe, effective, and up-to-date physiotherapy care.

You will also leave with a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs, ensuring you know exactly what to do next and how we will support your recovery.

Our physiotherapists are fully qualified, HCPC-registered, and work under the guidance of our senior clinical team, ensuring you receive safe, evidence-based care with the highest professional standards.

  • Richard Higgs, Physiotherapist at Handforth Physiotherapy and Rehab

    Richard Higgs

    Physiotherapist · HCPC registered · PH108265

I’m Richard, Clinical Director and founder of Handforth Physiotherapy and Rehab.

I established my first clinic in Heald Green five years ago after moving to the area with my young family, and I’m proud to now be building a larger, purpose-designed clinic in Handforth — created to deliver outstanding physiotherapy, rehabilitation and long-term results for our local community.

I’m a Chartered Physiotherapist, registered with the HCPC and a member of the CSP, with nearly a decade of experience across both the NHS and private sector. Over the years I’ve worked with a wide range of patients — from people managing persistent pain and post-operative recovery, to runners, gym-goers and athletes looking to return to sport with confidence.

As an ex–Great Britain age-group triathlete and a keen runner with Heald Green Runners, I understand first-hand how important it is to stay active, recover properly, and feel supported through injury. That experience strongly shapes my approach — combining evidence-based treatment, clear clinical reasoning, and genuine compassion.

At Handforth Physiotherapy and Rehab, my focus is on delivering a premium standard of care in a friendly, welcoming environment. Every patient receives a personalised plan tailored to their goals, lifestyle and long-term health — whether that’s getting back to running, rebuilding strength after surgery, or simply moving without pain again.

Richard is registered to BUPA, WPA, AXA and AVIVA insurace providers

So, I have a bad back with 2 bulging discs on my siatic nerve. Honestly these guys have helped me get my flipping life back! I have been in pain, like Lord Voldermort is using the Cruciatus (Crucio) curse on me 24/7. Yes I am still in pain sometimes but it's managable so I owe a lot to Handforth Physio as I can now sleep, because of them. Go to work, because of them. Play with my kids all because of them. I can't rate them highly enough, proffessional but also they will all have a laugh with you. You feel like they actually care not just a 'get him in get him out' job. The equipment is like something out of Star Wars it's that modern and advanced. Seriuously if you have a problem, it's really worth seeing these guys, Richard is the man and I've seen Leira once who gave me some exercises to work off this nerve pain but It's clear to me anyone that Richard employs will embody his expertise too.
